Traffic on East Main off the Laurens Square was reopened yesterday, as the final bricks were removed from the scene of a building at the corner of East Main and North Harper. Work began on demolishing the two-story structure Monday of last week. The work continued into this week. Some additional asbestos was found and crews were taking great careto take down the structure without damaging buildings only a few feet away on one side and to prevent falling bricks from striking the traffic passing on North Harper on the other side.
While some landscaping work remains, the large pieces of equipment used in the demolition were being removed and downtown traffic was restored to normal patterns yesterday. More on future plans for the site Friday as City Administrator Gary Coleman is our guest on the WLBG Morning News Magazine.
