A Laurens man died this weekend after being struck by a vehicle as he reportedly walked in the roadway.
Corporal Bill Rhyme of the Highway Patrol said the fatal collision occurred at 9:35 Saturday night a half mile east of Laurens on US 76. He said a 31-year-old Laurens woman was driving west on US 76 while the pedestrian was walking in the roadway. Her Mitsubishi struck the Laurens man.
Laurens County Deputy Coroner Vickie Cheek identified the pedestrian as 73-year-old Edgar Philson of Laurens. Cheek reported that said Philson died from blunt force trauma. WYFF 4 reports Cheek said Philson, who was a couple of miles away from home, was apparently walking back from a friend’s house.
The Highway Patrol was investigating the fatality. A Highway Patrol statement indicated that the Laurens woman driving the vehicle was not injured.
