Clinton Public Safety was dispatched to the Comfort Inn on Highway 56 at 3:15 yesterday afternoon to investigate identity theft. Sgt. Ritter and Lt. Robinson were told that three unknown persons checked into the motel under the name of a Clinton woman, using her bank card for the charges. One woman and two males had checked into the motel. They were still checked into the room, having already run up a tab of $156.18 for two nights at the facility. After no one came to knocks at the door, officers obtained a key and entered to find a woman’s pocket book with pictures of two juveniles, personal hygiene items, a ball cap, clothing and woman’s flip-flop shoes. Several used towels were in the room. Officers were not able to locate the subjects during an initial stake-out. Meanwhile, the Clinton woman had her bank card cancelled.
