The city of Clinton could add a new duty to the responsibilities of the Department of Public Works: Purse Recovery. At Tuesday’s meeting of Clinton City Council, City Manager Frank Stovall told Mayor Bob McLean and council about the adventures of two Public Works employees. Isaac Newton and Danny Rogers were working on a project for which they needed a specific item that was not available locally. The nearest retailer that had the item was in Simpsonville so they were dispatched to make the purchase. Upon exiting their truck in Simpsonville they discovered a purse lying in the parking lot. A quick search within revealed a name and address. With use of the GPS unit in the truck they were able to find exactly where the purse belonged.
And so it was that a City of Clinton service truck pulled up outside a home in Simpsonville and two Clinton Public Works employees handed over a purse to a very grateful Simpsonville resident. Mr. Stovall said things like that happen “when you employ quality people”. Normally, employees of the Department of Public Works don’t make the news, but they do in this case.
