Laurens Police Officer Riley Bailes was dispatched to the Public Square at 11:43 Sunday morning on a report of someone cutting limbs of trees the city has growing along the sidewalk. He did not observe anyone cutting trees but did see that two trees had several limbs cut from them. A woman came out of one business and indicated she had cut limbs that were blocking view of the sign to her business. Officer Bailes was then informed about the owner of another business at that location who had cut limbs blocking the sign to his business. Both reportedly said they had made requests of the city to prune the trees. They were then informed that cutting the trees was violation of a city ordinance. One of the business people then pointed out a stump around the corner that had been a tree that was completely cut down by another business owner. Investigation of the pruning of the trees around the Laurens Square was to continue.
