“It’s a Family Affair,” that’s the theme of an event this afternoon at Laurens District 55 High School. From 2 until 4 this afternoon Transition Services at District 55 is inviting Transition students and their families to come by to learn about opportunities available now and in the future. One of the participating partners is the Laurens County Disabilities and Special Needs Board. Executive Director Jason Tavenner told WLBG News “What we want to do is present to families what it is that is in our community that can help support their child. As far as the Disabilities and Special Needs Board, we’ve been working very closely with District 55 as far as transitioning students from High School into our community, whether that be for work opportunities at our Evergreen Skills facility or work opportunities in the community or just an opportunity to integrate with our community. We try to make sure our families know exactly what’s out there.”

This afternoon’s event is for District 55 transition students ages 13 to 21 and their families, and begins at 2:00 at LDHS for a grab bag meal and continues with speakers and break-out sessions.
