Clinton Public Safety Officers Yelton and Metz responded to the Citgo at 102 South Broad at 1:20 this morning on a report of a fight in progress.
Witnesses had reported that a man was on the ground with a woman and another man beating him. They arrived to observe a 24-year-old local man on the sidewalk with his knuckles bleeding and blood on the left side of his head. He declined the need for EMS. He reportedly indicated he had been in an argument with his girlfriend over her taking his beer when the other man attacked him. Officers cleared the area and were searching for the two suspects. Then the victim called to speak with police again, this time on Woodrow Street. While on the way officers spotted the suspects walking toward South Broad and turning to walk toward McDonald’s, across the street from the original incident. After speaking with them, both were arrested and placed in City Jail this morning. 28-year-old Stephanie Jean Smith of 203 Beauregard Street was being held for charges of Criminal Domestic Violence while 26-year-old Anthony Britt Case of 301 Revelation Drive, Laurens was being held for Assault and Battery 3rd Degree.
