Sheriff’s Sgt. John Carter responded to Plank Drive outside Laurens at 12:23 yesterday afternoon on a report of a domestic dispute. While he was on the way he was advised that Deputy Brad Shepard was at the intersection of US 76 and Green Pond Road with two men, one of whom was reportedly involved with the domestic incident on Plank Drive.
Sgt. Carter reportedly learned of an argument between the two live-in lovers around 3:00 am yesterday after the woman learned of the boyfriend having contact with his children’s mother via Facebook. They reportedly went to sleep, but got into argument again when they work up. Both allegedly assaulted the other. The woman had swelling and a cut above her left eye. The man reportedly had scratches on the neck and dreadlocks of his hair were reportedly recovered from a trash can. Both were arrested and placed in the county detention center.
27-year-old Damon Fitzgerald Sanders of 86 Plank Road, Laurens was charged with Criminal Domestic Violence 2nd Offense in a warrant that states he has a prior conviction for domestic violence. In addition to a warrant charging Criminal Domestic Violence, 38-year-old Debra Ann Powers of 86 Plank Road, Laurens, also known as Debra Ann Gilliam, was served with two warrants accusing her of passing fraudulent checks.
Both remained in the Johnson Detention Facility overnight, pending an appearance today in Magistrate’s Court where bond is expected to be set.
