An off-duty Laurens Police officer called the Sheriff’s office after arriving at his home off Highway 76 East of Clinton yesterday afternoon. He had observed a man sitting in the front passenger seat of a black SUV parked on family property. The man would not respond to knocking on the window. Deputies who arrived were eventually able to get the man to wake up. Deputy Taylor reported that while he attempted to talk with the man he became irate and started cursing, but refused to answer questions about why he was on the property. Lt. Shelton and Deputy Taylor then placed the 29-year-old man from West Columbia under arrest. He was jailed on charges of Public Intoxication and Having an Open Alcoholic Container in a vehicle.
