Laurens Police were dispatched to a residence on Riverside Street at 2:55 yesterday afternoon on a report of an assault with a baseball bat. Master Patrolman James Nolen reported he arrived right after Lt. Heath Copeland at the scene and they observed a 26-year-old man in the roadway and a 49-year-old woman on the porch of #11 Riverside. The woman reportedly claimed her boyfriend’s father had struck her with a baseball bat while they were all inside the residence. The man in the street said his Dad had come at him with the baseball bat and chased him into the roadway. Both advised officers that the older man was still in the house along with the younger man’s grandmother. Officers attempted to speak with the younger man’s father inside the house but found the door was locked. Lt Copeland announced officer’s presence. A short time later the man reportedly came out of the residence with his hands up. He reportedly told officers that he had been called to the house on a report his son had caused a disturbance in the house and that his girlfriend had threatened his son’s grandmother. Officers placed the father under arrest. 49-year-old Curtis Allen Chapman of 11 Riverside Drive, Laurens was placed in the Johnson Detention Center. He remained there overnight, with an assault charge reportedly pending from Laurens Police.
