Laurens Police responded to Wal-Mart at 5:26 Friday morning on a report of a shoplifter. Lt. Brandy Anderson observed the male subject who appeared to be sweating heavily and very nervous. She reportedly grabbed the man by the arm and said they were going back into the store to talk about the alleged theft. The man reportedly resisted and struggled with the officer. At one point a stolen computer and camera fell from his jacket. The coat and then his shirt came off and he fled on foot into nearby woods. The $917 in stolen goods was recovered. A 28-year-old Greenville man was wanted for charges of Shoplifting, Resisting Arrest and Assaulting a Police Officer. The SLED dog team, already in town on the Armed Robbery at Lil’ Cricket, was able to pick up a trail and followed it to a pasture on East Jerry Drive.
