Bonds totaling $100,000 were set yesterday on four drug and firearms charges served on man arrested by Laurens Police Monday night. 21-year-old Demavia Rahfe Rice of 7387 Highway 308, Laurens was arrested after a car he was a front seat passenger in was stopped as officers investigated a report of gunshots heard from a car on Independence and Spring Streets.
As a crowed gathering around the stopped car continued growing Monday night, the 22-year-old driver and back seat passengers aged 14 and 18 were released without charges, pending further investigation. Drug charges served yesterday were Possession with Intent to Distribute Marijuana and Possession with Intent within Proximity of a Playground. Firearms charges were Possession of a Stolen Pistol and Possession of a Firearm by a Convicted Felon. Master Patrolman James Woody states that an investigation by Officer Amanda Templeton as indicating that Fe Rice had in his possession a large quantity of marijuana, approximately 130.7 grams, and a scale on Independence Avenue, within a half mile of a basketball court on Independence used by children. Warrants further allege that Mr. Rice was in possession of a stolen. 45 caliber pistol, that the .45 caliber Daly pistol was in the floor of the vehicle directly in his vicinity, and that he is prohibited from possession a firearm due to being a convicted felon.
With the $100,000 bond, “Fe” Rice remained in the Johnson Detention Center this morning.
