Several law enforcement agencies became involved in a police chase from Clinton into Laurens around 2 O’clock this morning. Clinton Public Safety Sgt. Cathy Anderson reportedly spotted a vehicle crossing the center line on Carolina Avenue and followed it onto A.B. Jacks Road. The vehicle allegedly failed to stop when blue lights and siren were activated. Sheriff’s Lt. Marlon Higgenbotham was able to get to the Jerry Road intersection with the 127 By-pass just before the chase and put out stop strips, which flattened all four tires of the car being chased. The fleeing driver kept going into Laurens on US 76 as City Officers also became involved. According to reports, the fleeing driver was unable to make a turn from Fleming onto Deer Street due to running on rims by that time and he was taken into custody. The driver was arrested by Clinton Public Safety and being held for charges expected to include Driving Left of Center, a multiple offense of Driving under Suspension and drug charges including Possession of Marijuana and Possession of Drug Paraphernalia.
