Clinton Public Safety was dispatched at 11:03 yesterday morning on a report of a man seen breaking into a blue and white house on Gordon Street.
Lt. Anderson located a man matching the description of someone seen coming from the house and was joined by Sgt. Prather in taking the man into investigative detention. They went to the house on Gordon Street and found the front door open. A broken window was observed, along with a brick was in a living room chair. They located a bank notice that the house had been secured since March 3rd. The man reportedly indicated he had been staying there about a week, noting he had nowhere else to go. They had him gather his clothing from the house and his money, reportedly kept under a DVD player on a coffee table. Officers also noted paperwork from the City of Clinton regarding criminal charges against the man. 20-year-old Devonte Tyrell “Vonte” Anderson was arrested and booked with an address noted on Bailey Street, Clinton. He was charged with 2nd Degree Burglary. In a warrant, Lt. Cathy Anderson states that on July 9th Devonte Anderson entered a Clinton residence by force and took up residency in the house, without permission or authority from the owner of the property.
A cash or surety bond was set at $5,000. “Vonte” Anderson was placed in the Johnson Detention Center, where he remained this morning.
