A young Laurens County woman remained in the Johnson Detention Center this morning, charged with putting her three children at risk and causing one of them to have great bodily injury. A 2-year-old son remained in Greenville Memorial Hospital with injuries including bleeding on the brain, bruising to the head, neck and back, along with other medical injuries. 25-year-old Savanah Victoria Morgan of 1922 Martin’s Lake Road, Gray Court was charged yesterday with one count of Abuse to Inflict Great Bodily Injury Upon a Child, with three counts of Child Neglect, and with one count of Cruelty or Abandonment of Animals.
Her two-year-old son was airlifted to Greenville Tuesday evening. His twin and a one-year-old sibling were taken into Emergency Protective Custody.
In the warrant charging Abuse, Sheriff’s Lt. Scott Franklin states that on July 28th Morgan placed at unreasonable risk of harm to a minor child, age 2, by exposing the minor child to physical abuse, causing the child to have great bodily injury.
The three warrants alleging neglect states she placed at unreasonable risk of harm two children aged 2 and one child aged 1.
Laurens County Animal Control was also called to the residence on Martin’s Lake Road Tuesday evening because of the large number of animals. In the warrant charging Animal Cruelty, Lt. Scott Franklin states there were 90 animals in the home, including dogs, cats, reptiles, tarantulas and rodents, and that a majority of the animals were dead when deputies arrived Tuesday evening. Sheriff Chastain told WLBG yesterday that more animals died after being taken from the home.
During arraignment yesterday, cash or surety bonds totaling $85,000 were set for Savanah Victoria Morgan. That included $50,000 on the Great Bodily Injury charge.
As of last evening, the father, who was also in the residence Tuesday, had not been charged.
