Laurens Police were dispatched to the Waterhole at 915 Church Street at 1:22 Saturday morning on report of a fight in progress. When officers arrived it appeared that the subjects who had been fighting had disbursed. One man at the scene was observed with blood on his person. He reportedly said others had jumped on him. No lacerations were observed on the man and he refused EMS. Patrons at the establishment reportedly advised Sgt. Simmons that this individual had used a box cutter and that the blood was from the person he had cut. Statements from three individuals, who did not appear to be intoxicated, indicated the man had been aggressive towards multiple people upon closing of the bar. Statements indicated that a 36-year-old Clinton man was attempting to calm down the subject when the subject pulled a box cutter and cut the Clinton man on the hand, causing major injuries. Officers spoke with the victim at the hospital. A blue and silver knife was seized as evidence. After investigation, Laurens Police arrested 32-year-old Luis Angel Calixto of 65 MaHaffey Road, Gray Court at 1:00 Saturday afternoon and charged him with Assault and Battery 2nd Degree.
A warrant states that investigation of Sgt. Simmons indicates the defendant did with malice and forethought use a knife to cause great bodily injury to the victim by cutting the victim on his hand and causing the victim to undergo surgery. Luis Angel Calixto was released from the Johnson Detention Center Sunday morning on a $25,000 surety bond.
