Economic development projects were a main part of this week’s Laurens County Council meeting, with Council Chairman Joe Wood commenting on how far the county is moving forward.
After a public hearing, third reading approval was given to Ordinance 800, which authorizes the execution of one or more incentive agreements between Laurens County and a company previously known as “Project Lambardi,” which is now identified as RAI holdings. Located in Owings Industrial Park, RAI Holding is expanding with an investment projected from $4.5 million to $9.5 million.
County Council also approved a resolution Tuesday evening approving establishment of tax incentives for a company referred to as “Project Baretta.” This resolution refers to expansion of an existing industry with proposes to hire 30 new employees and spend approximately $8 million in new investments. Council also voted an approval of Ordinance 801 regarding a fee-in-lieu-of-tax agreement and amendment of an existing agreement with “project Baretta.”
Two more ordinances that are connected were given 1st reading approval without specifics yet on record. More details are expected at the next Council meeting on these.
Ordinance 802 and 803 involve the amendment of an existing agreement and the execution of a fee in lieu of tax agreement to enlarge the boundaries of a joining county industrial and business park located in Laurens County and presently owned by “Project Yak,” or one or more of its affiliates or related companies.
