Sheriff’s Lt. Marty Crain was on Caroline Street at the intersection of Hillcrest Drive at 3:38 this morning when he observed a 4-door light gray GMC truck on Hillcrest Drive. Lt. Crain said the pickup was traveling 80 miles per hour and ran through the red light at the intersection. Lt. Crain spotlighted the vehicle and turned on his blue lights. He reported locating the pickup in the Courthouse parking lot of Hillcrest Square. It was near the construction site of the new County Administrative Office building and behind the Masonic Lodge. The driver reportedly fled the scene on foot. Deputies and Laurens City Police searched for the man, who had fled eastward, toward AgSouth, but then headed west and was lost somewhere behind the Ace Hardware store. Laurens City Police contacted the owner of the truck who named a friend who had borrowed the vehicle, so officers have a suspect identified from the incident this morning. The pickup was towed to the county impound lot.
