Clinton Public Safety responded to the Laurens County Memorial Hospital at 11:48 yesterday morning on a report of a man being treated for a stab injury to his hand. Officer Mercer reported observing a 25-year-old Clinton area man with a 1 ½ inch cut to his hand that was possibly cut down to the bone. The man told of having an argument via Facebook with a 39-year-old Clinton man, and that they agreed to meet at a Peachtree Street location to settle the matter. He told of the other man standing in that yard with two knives, and noted he also had one. He told of leaving his knife on the porch of a house and moving toward the other man to fight him. The victim noted the altercation moved down Peachtree Street to the intersection with Beech Street. He told of knocking one knife from the other man as he attempted to fight him, and of the man making multiple attempts to cut him with the larger knife, noting he was cut on the hand during the incident. A report on the matter noted some discrepancies in the man’s story. Officers spoke with others in the area and were attempting to contact the other man allegedly involved in the altercation. The man with the knife cut to his hand reportedly said he did not want to prosecute the other man. Officers with Public Safety were continuing their investigation. The victim was supposed to come to the Police Station and complete reports when he is released from the hospital. Officers seized one silver knife from the scene of the altercation.
