Pastor Wayne Jones was accompanied by Joe Gresham last night as they made a request of Laurens County Council on behalf of the Ministry“Set Free To Be.” They asked council for property on Templeton Road across from the Johnson Detention Center, saying they want to build a re-entry/transitional facility to aid those people being released from jail and rehab facilities within the county. Pastor Jones told council that all they will need is the property and that he expects grants and private donations will support operation of the facility. Major Tyson from the Johnson Detention Center also spoke to council on behalf of the ministry, acknowledging the positive results he has observed thanks to their work with his inmates.
Although council seemed to be in favor of the request, some voiced their concern on this setting a precedent for supporting non- profit agencies, with so many already working in the county. Council Chairman Joe Wood decided to take the request as information for now and will form a committee to look further into the issue.
