The Laurens Lights Festival returned for three weekends over the recent Christmas holidays; but having lights on the Little River wasn’t a routine event this year. The heavy rain that flooded parts of the Little River Walking Trail in early October damaged a lot of the electrical infrastructure along the river. Laurens CPW electric crews, however, were able to make needed repair in time to have the holiday lights installed and working in time. At this week’s CPW meeting, the commissioners were advised that after Christmas, the lights were turned off earlier than usual as a result of flooding. Additional heavy rainfall has caused the water to rise out of the banks more than once since the initial flooding in early October. The CPW has recently been taking down the lights and storing them for next year.
