A former member of the Laurens County Legislative Delegation announced he is seeking election to return to the State House from a different District.
Appearing on WLBG Radio this morning, David Tribble said “I have decided to announce today for the State House of Representatives and District 42.”
Tribble noted that District 42 has 10,000 residents in the Clinton and Joanna area of Laurens County as well as all of Union County. “So it’s a …big area and it’s got two areas of influence. It has two high schools…and the feeding mechanisms that come with those. That would be Clinton High and Union High.”
House Seat 42 has for many years been represented by former Union High School Football Coach Mike Anthony, who has announced his intentions of seeking election as the South Carolina Superintendent of Education in the upcoming elections.
David Tribble noted that the last redistricting caused changes to both House Seat 42 based in Union and House Seat 15, which was dominated by Laurens County and in which David Tribble served one term. He noted House Seat 15 was one of four that had to move to more populated areas.
“My district, the District 15, was the 8th smallest district to start with, and… every district that it touched needed 4,000 people. And so when you need 8,000 and every district you touch needs 4,000, things are not going to work out for you. And I don’t mean that just for me personally, it didn’t work out well for our community.”
After announcing his candidacy on WLBG this morning, David Tribble traveled to Union to announce his candidacy there on WBCU and with the Union newspapers.
In redistricting, Seat 42 lost some small population in rural Spartanburg County in return for the area it gained in eastern Laurens County.
Prior to serving one term in the State House from Seat 15, David Pitts was on Laurens County Council. His previous public service included serving as Mayor of Clinton.
