Phil Astwood of the Carolinas Association for Passenger Trains was at last night’s Laurens County Council meeting, requesting a Resolution of Support for having enhanced passenger train service available in South Carolina. Astwood said he’s not connected with a railroad, but his organization is speaking out on the need for these enhanced transportation options for the citizens of the state. He said that this is a first step to show the South Carolina Legislature the support for another train service which would serve more cities in the state. He noted that two other counties have already gone on record in support of the resolution.

County Council gave unanimous approval for the resolution. Referring to the efforts of the Carolina’s Association for Passenger Trains, County Council Chairman Jim Coleman said “I appreciate someone taking the ball and running with it on this matter.”

Astwood’s request to council was delayed from an earlier meeting because a winter storm was moving across the state at that time.
