The newly formed Laurens County Trails Association’s (LCTA) Board of Directors is seeking public input as it works to establish a trail similar to Greenville’s Swamp Rabbit Trail.  The purpose of the trail will be to promote healthy lifestyles, stimulate economic growth, and promote conservation.  The initial plan is to connect a primary trail to an existing trail in Fountain Inn, route it through Owings, Gray Court, Laurens, Clinton, and Joanna, and then connect to the Palmetto Trail in the Sumter National Forest to form a loop in the foothills and Piedmont of the upstate.  It would be designed so that other Laurens County trails could connect to it. Besides offering diverse and beautiful terrain for walkers, hikers, cyclists, and other outdoor enthusiasts, the trail would offer the opportunity for new economic growth by bringing eco-tourists into the towns on the trail.  LCTA Managing Director Don Walker said “The Swamp Rabbit Trail has proven to be very beneficial to Greenville County. Our vision is to capitalize on that success.  We believe that Laurens County has much to offer in both natural beauty and small town hospitality.”

The Board of LCTA is interested in expanding to as many as 15 members and constructive input is welcomed.  They’re also looking for volunteers to help with fundraising, the master plan and spreading the word.  For more information, contact Don Walker at 864-871-1255 or donwalker@prtcnet.com.
