A Greer man was charged with Drug Possession with Intent to Distribute Friday, following a shoplifting investigation in the Laurens Wal-Mart. Three people were charged with Shoplifting.
Laurens City Police later served warrants charging 57-year-old Michael Dewey McGaha of 966 Cogin Drive, Greer with Enhanced Shoplifting along with Possession of Methamphetamine with Intent to Distribute and Possession with Intent within Proximity of a School or Park.
Officer Gallo states than an investigation indicates that on August 11th Michael Dewey McGaha was found to be in possession of approximately 5.7 grams of methamphetamine. Gallo states this was discovered during a Friday shoplifting incident at Wal-Mart. A second warrant states that the meth possession at Wal-Mart was within a half mile of Brownlee Park in Laurens.
As for the Enhanced Shoplifting case, Officer Gallo states that Mr. Magaha concealed two watches in his pants pocket after removing them from the retail packaging, and he added that McGaha has multiple convictions of crimes of dishonesty, making this incident enhanced.
Michael Dewey McGaha was released yesterday on cash or surety bonds totaling $40,000 on the three charges.
Two Waterloo women were also arrested on charges of Shoplifting from Wal-Mart. 46-year-old Jeanie McGarity Cartwright of 344 Red Bird Lane was released on a $1,000 cash or surety bond. 51-year-old Pamela D. Evett Gay, also of 34 Red Bird Lane, was released Saturday morning on a $652 personal recognizance bond.
