Clinton Public Safety Lt. Casey Jones was on routine patrol on East Carolina Avenue just after 3 yesterday morning when he observed two men standing outside two windows of a car in the McDonald’s Drive-thru, talking with two women in the car. He then reportedly observed one of the men leave and enter the passenger door of a Dodge Dakota pickup nearby in the parking lot that had been painted with a spray can. Lt. Jones pulled into the Citgo across Broad to further observe the suspicious behavior. He observed activity between the two vehicles and learned that a man previously known to the officer was attempting to get a ride with the female driver. He also allegedly detected the original blue paint on the pickup truck, which was reported stolen from Newberry County. 25-year-old Michael Leon Killingsworth of 107 Oakland Street, #8, was arrested and charged with Possession of a Stolen Vehicle. A $5,000 cash or surety bond was set during arraignment. Killingsworth was transferred to the Johnson Detention Center. The Newberry County Sheriff’s Office arrived to process the recovered stolen vehicle, a 2000 Dodge Dakota valued at $5,500.
