US Highway 76 reopened for through traffic between Laurens and Princeton yesterday. Signs and barricades that had directed traffic to use Highway 252 and US 25 were removed as work was completed.
Yesterday’s Laurens County Advertiser reported that Maintenance Engineer Matthew Shealey with the Newberry SCDOT office said crews finished seeding and other shoulder work over the weekend and were to reopen the road after lines were painted. The newspaper story said surveyors discovered a slope near Lick Creek was sliding into the creek bed at the end of March, leading SCDOT to declare the slope an emergency project. The bridge over Lick Creek was closed at the end of June to allow for the rebuilding of that section of roadway.
WLBG news noted the detour signs were down early this morning, well in time for school buses serving that part of the county to use their regular routes with the start of school next Monday.
