Deputy Tyler Hunter and Lt Marlon Higgenbotham were patrolling on Penland Road, Laurens at 9:06 Friday night when they reportedly spotted a Chrysler Sebring with no tag light and made a traffic stop. They reported that on approaching the car they noticed the smell of marijuana. A rear seat passenger was reportedly acting very nervously. They reportedly determined this man had marijuana in his crotch area. They had him stand and shake his leg, and reported observing marijuana fall to the ground from his pants. They also allegedly located 2 pills of a controlled substance which he did not have a prescription for. 20-year-old Daniel Joshua Sanders of 316 Beauregard Street, Clinton was then arrested and placed in the Johnson Detention Center. He was charged with Simple Possession of Marijuana and was also being held over the weekend for a warrant regarding Possession of a Controlled Substance. The driver of the car was warned about the tag light violation and released.
