Laurens County Council last evening also gave final approval of incentives for expansion of an existing plant, located just outside Laurens. Council gave unanimous 3rd reading approval for County Ordinance 791, which authorizes execution and delivery of a fee-in-lieu-of-tax agreement between the county and CB&I Laurens. This authorizes an extension of the FILOT agreement entered into between the county and CB&I. During the public hearing prior to the vote, Will Johnson, the attorney representing CB&I, told council that the company will be investing $4.4 million on new machines make repairs to the existing facility. Johnson also said that CB&I will be hiring approximately 56 workers over the next 5 years. He noted they’re in desperate need of welders, saying they will offer training.
