Charges of forced entry into an occupied Laurens residence were served yesterday on a man arrested by Laurens City Police the previous overnight and placed in the Johnson Detention Center in the early morning hours. 21-year-old James Edward “Jamie” Simmons II of 152 Post Drive, Clinton was charged with 1st Degree Burglary and with Possession of a Weapon during a Violent Crime. One warrant alleges that Mr. Simmons entered an occupied dwelling by force Tuesday at a residence on Woodlawn Way in Laurens. He is further accused of possessing a deadly weapon, unlawfully carrying a 9 mm handgun while committing the first degree burglary on Woodlawn Way. Sgt. James Nolen cites the investigation of Sgt. Charles Simmons in the warrants. A $75,000 cash or surety bond was set on the weapons charge, but bond was denied on the 1st Degree Burglary charge yesterday. James Edward Simmons II remained in the Johnson Detention Center this morning.
