A Laurens County man was advised last night that it appears he has been scammed of $200. Deputy Paterson responded to the man’s home between Gray Court and Hickory Tavern around 11:00 last night and was told the man had sent $200 to “a loan company” as a processing fee for a $4,000 loan he had applied for on-line. He said the “company” had advised him he was approved for the loan, so he went to Wal-Mart and sent the money. He said when he later asked why the $4,000 had not been placed in his account, he was told there were “some issues” and he needed to send more money. He said that he had sent the $200 to a man in Florida, but Deputy Paterson said this type of scam has been going on for a long time and usually is someone from out of the country.
