A Northern Laurens County man was being held for charges this after a shooting in his house overnight. Deputy Steve Paterson was dispatched to Stewart Road, Fountain Inn at 7:41 last night after a man from the area called to say his neighbor was yelling. While on the way Deputy Paterson was advised that the subject was walking around his yard with a light and a long gun. On arrival Deputy Paterson reported finding a long firearm propped against the gate. He took custody of the rifle, then climbed over the gate when the resident couldn’t find the key. Inside the house the officer observed several more firearms. The man reported there was a small man in his house in a back room who had come at him, and he shot to defend himself. Officers documented numerous places throughout the mobile home where gunfire had struck interior walls, ceilings, windows and doors. Deputy Paterson noted the man appeared to be under the influence of something due to slurring his speech and appearing unsteady on his feet. The 55-year-old man was taken to the GHS Laurens County Memorial Hospital for evaluation then placed in the Johnson Detention Center. He was being held as the Sheriff’s Office was to consult with a Magistrate about possible charges. Deputies seized 10 long guns, 5 handguns and somewhere between 500 and 1,000 rounds of ammunition. The long guns included two AK 47s and one AR15.
