A new measure to improve school safety was reported at last night’s Laurens County District 55 School board meeting. Principle Phillip Dean of Laurens Elementary School announced that schools’ newest measure to improve school safety, the purchase of emergency kits for each classroom that contain “Safeceivers.” These are one-way radios with multiple receivers for quick and discreet dissemination of important instructions and information to give urgent updates to specific people in times of emergency.
Dean reported the cost of the radios and the technological upgrade to accommodate them was $6,750 with $2,785 for the purchase received in gifts and pledges from the community.
